Ethical fall footwear from New York’s Coclico
Yesterday we featured 5 days of ethical work wear, but a top, professional ‘look’ isn’t finished until it has the requisite footwear. New York-based eco-friendly footwear company, Coclico, has been making beautiful shoes and boots since 2000, and will likely have something to fit your wardrobe no matter where you work or travel.
Sandra Canselier, a fourth generation shoemaker, is serious about craftsmanship, design, and functionality. Her eye for detail and design ensures that these stunning boots will take on the character and narrative of their owner as they become more unique (and attractive) with wear. Coclico’s philosophy is about finding beauty in the simple, rugged, and understated.
Canselier is also committed to sustainable production. Organic linens, recycled cork and foam, vegan leather lining and lead-free/nickel-free hardware, all sourced from regional suppliers close to their production facility, are the materials that go into her products. Even the leather that is used is ICEC certified and is a by-product of the meat industry in Europe and then finished at tanneries in either Spain or Italy. No animals are harmed for the sheer sake of a pair of shoes.
The Fall/Winter ’12 collection offers a lovely array of winter boots and booties. From the classic Spanish leather Windy boot to the more fashion-forward wedge boot in espresso suede with a light brown leather tie at the ankle, there are many interesting details in polished finishes. If you’re in the market for more of a bootie, then the Cadby with individual panels going up the front and elegant self-covered heel could do the trick. While, the lace up Niko style, which comes in an assortment of colors including red takes the hiking boot to a new a whole new level. Buy online or visit their boutique in Nolita (NYC).
