Hand-made Thursdays – MADE
made is described by Laura Bailey, in the video below, as a “fair-trade fashion model for the future.” made is about producing gorgeously unique, high quality designer accessories for style-savvy shoppers. All made products are designed by influential designers, then sourced and created within disadvantaged communities across East Africa. Following the principles of fair trade, made trains local artisans in new skills, providing fair wages and support at every level. Via this ‘trade not aid’ ethos they believe they can help break the cycle of poverty and empower the people who create their products. The brand is made – by the people for the people.
The word “Marafiki” means “friend” in Swahili – this friendship bracelet designed by Laura Bailey is made of cotton cord, Maasai glass beads and recycled brass, with the hand cast jasmine bud charm which has become Bailey’s signature throughout her collection. Available in 3 different colours – sky blue, bright green and bright red.
This charm bracelet, also designed by Laura Bailey, is made from recycled brass charms of coins and jasmine buds, and brass Africa silhouettes, spears, chain and rings. Laura has left empty rings on the bracelet to invite you to make it your own by personalizing it with your own charms and treasures.
