Japan Fashion Week – Kamishima Chinami

The crowd waiting for the Kamishima Chinami show was part of the affluent, stylish, 20′s crowd; her ideal customer. Kamishima Chinami is famed for hand-dying all of her creations at her atelier here in Tokyo, as well as creating original fabrics in collaboration with local textile industry craftspeople. If she’s been labeled as “Lost in Translation” in previous collections, she rectified that for her SS12. The Chinami girl is both hard and soft, seen in the duality of the make-up; a swish of sun-orange under the left eye and a metallic applique, brow-bone to temple, on the right. The clothes also matched this duality; if they were soft on the front, there was an edge on the back; metallic studs on loose-fitting, flowy pieces. This demure daddy’s girl definitely has a rock n roll edge.
