Lust List: ILIA Silken Shadow Sticks
This is an unsolicited, unpaid review. I discovered the product on a recent stop at The Detox Market in LA, fell in love and followed up with Sasha for more details.
Vancouver-born, LA-based Sasha Plavsic launched Ilia Beauty as a collection of six tinted lip conditioners in 2011. The prestige line of natural and organic beauty products now includes illuminators, concealers, and a full collection for the eyes: liners, mascara and on our #lustlist – a cream shadow stick. Each product contains up to 85 percent bioactive organic ingredients, sourced from organic farmers around the world and manufactured in an organic certified lab. Plus – for the vegan, clean beauty lovers, Ilia is certified Leaping Bunny (products that are not listed as vegan contain a small percentage of beeswax.)
What captured my passion about these sticks was the ease of application, which was part of the creation Sasha shares,
I wanted to have a cream shadow stick that could still move when applied to the skin. Alot of shadow sticks dry down fast and there isn’t much time to work with them. Having some soft, which can build to a stronger hue, and blend to just a slight touch of color was the target.
Several of the shades take their names from 1980′s songs, an era that seemed dominated by eyeshadow (Dynasty, anyone?) And the colour palette is reminiscent of the natural environment of her childhood, Sasha remembers,
During Autumn, the asphalt road leading to our house was always wet with rain and had rich, dark shades of grey covered with thousands of maples in tones of gold, burgundy, and brown. There’s something comforting about those shades and on top of it, they look beautiful when all together.
All the hues are earthy and work together with one another. Each Shadow Stick glides on effortlessly for a velvety wash of metallic color. The current palette includes:
- And She Was is a light wash of gold that will brighten and highlight the eyes.
- In Between Days is a flattering hue of burnt gold with subtle glint.
- Next To You is a romantic amber rose adds warmth and a sense of softness to the eyes.
- Take On Me, the versatility of the Marsala shade is undeniable.
- You Spin Me Round will help you create depth and shine with this classic gunmetal shade.
- Age Of Consent is a versatile ash brown shade you’ll be coming back to again and again.
To get the look above:
Apply And She Was Silken Shadow Stick on the inner corner of eyes and over the lids. Blend out to soften edges. Layer Next To You shadow starting from the middle of the lid going outwards, blending the two shades together to create a smokey warm hue.
Add intensity by layering You Spin Me Round shadow on the outer corners of lids and blending as necessary to a desired smokey look. Trace and smudge Rebel Rebel Pure Eyeliner along the outer corners of upper and lower lash line. Finish with a couple of coats of Mascara in Nightfall.
