Taking what was destined for the dump + making new

The mission of New Zealand bag maker WAS is to ‘make great products that people love!’ But the fact that all WAS products are upcycled waste that would be otherwise be destined for landfill, grabbed our attention.

WAS started as a bag company taking Billboard ‘skins’ from their previous life hanging out on motorways, streets and building faces, entertaining and informing New Zealanders and recycling them into billboard bags!

Then they moved into furniture; discovering how well a dirty inner tube, or a coffee bean sack could transform into an office chair ($160 NZD) or  ottoman ($149 NZD).

WAS believes “just because a product is good for the environment it does not mean that you should compromise on quality.” All WAS products are locally made and where they can they source all materials from local manufacturers.
